ROUND 1

This is the opening round of Quickfire Questions featuring all six gardeners. Stay tuned for round 2 of this casual, conversational series!

Here are the questions:

Favorite way to sweat?

Keeping you busy lately?

Currently reading?

Favorite holiday tradition?

Usual coffee order & holiday coffee order?

KATHY

1. Running.

2. Holiday prep, I mean joy ;)

3. Olive Kitteredge and When Elephants Weep.

4. Christmas morning with my children and now grand child.

5. Coffee with steamed non-dairy milk; this time of year, a latte made with Califia almond milk nog.

ALI

1. Running and I’m a new fan of Orange Theory thanks to a friend’s recommendation; although, I’m not doing much of either and hope to get back into a routine soon.

2. Taking care of my little babe and thinking about dissertation-writing, but writing very little.

3. Saunders's Lincoln in the Bardo and Houellebecq's Elementary Particles.

4. Hmm..difficult to choose. Christmas morning with my family, and, with my new little one, I have taken up my mom’s sweet tradition of reading Twas the Night Before Christmas.

5. Usually black coffee; lately, a shot of espresso with frothed Trader Joe’s almond nog and a dash of cinnamon (and a dollop of whipped cream if I’m being honest).

ARI

1. Running (slowly).

2. Travel for OB-GYN residency interviews (I just heard my first ever Southwest jingle, live performed over the intercom).

3. Robert Penn Warren’s All the King's Men

4. My mom basically every year suggesting “Santa didn't come” on Christmas morning to increasingly very grown children waiting on the staircase.

5. I can't lie...Starbuck’s PSL (but I do the kid’s size because that ratio of espresso to sugar to milk is paradoxically more adult than the ratio you’ll find in the usual sizes).*

ANNALISE

1. Hiking, when I'm home. Walking and biking at school (okay I may or may not actually exercise).

2. Finishing up fall quarter, average college student shenanigans, and holiday festivities.

3. Do my textbooks count?**

4. Our big family crowded in the family room watching (or talking through) movies with holiday beverages and a fire going.

5. Warm apple cider sprinkled with ground fennel, coffee with peppermint mocha creamer, or chai/earl grey tea with a bit of honey and half and half.

ALEX

1. Weightlifting, especially upper-body day.

2. College and friends.

3. Percy Shelley’s poem England in 1819.

4. Getting new pajamas on Christmas Eve.

5. Usually a hot black coffee, but now a vanilla latte.

ANGIE

1. Long runs with my high school cross country team!

2. School, piano, and running keep me busy every day.

3. After reading my mom's book review, I started The Rosie Project. I love the story! I am also reading Things Fall Apart.

4. On Christmas Eve, every family member puts on their new Christmas pajamas and we watch a holiday movie.

5. As an addict of boba, my current favorite drink order is a matcha latte with boba.

Editor’s Notes

*After I followed Ari’s lead and ordered a “kid size, but adult temperature” drink at Starbucks, I discovered all along we could have been asking for a “short.” We embarrassed ourselves so you don’t have to!

**They most certainly do count! For the record, Annalise has been busy reading her organic chemistry textbook.
