Round 2

Round 2 of Quickfire Questions is on-theme for February—this round’s questions are all about love. Happy almost Valentine’s Day!

Here are the questions:

Favorite love-related song/s?

Favorite book/article/poem/etc. on the subject of love?

Valentine’s plans/gifts/cards/traditions or is that a hard pass for you?

KATHY

1. “I’d Love to Lay You Down” by Conway Twitty and “Candy” by Paolo Nutini.*

2. “Meditation at Lagunitas” by Robert Hass.

3. Valentine’s turned into a kid holiday over the years, although I do get a bouquet every year.

ALI

1. Ahhh, impossible to narrow down so I will name a few. “3 Rounds and a Sound” by Blind Pilot, “The Fountain” by Future Islands, “To the Dogs or Whoever” by Josh Ritter, “Old Mythologies” by the Barr Brothers. Favorite more sultry tunes are “Talk is Cheap” by Chet Faker and “Open” by Rhye. Finally, Phosphorescent’s beautifully painful “Song for Zula.”

2. Plato’s Phaedrus and Robert Frost’s "The Master Speed.”

3. I love a reason to celebrate—Valentine’s is no exception! When we were local, Taqueria El Molino in Walnut Creek was a tradition. The best Valentine’s gift I ever received was peanut butter cups from Richard Donnelly Chocolates in Santa Cruz. They were AMAZING.

ARI

1. ”Fistful of Love” by Antony and the Johnsons.

2. “The First Truth” by Philip Levine.

3. We usually go to PF Chang’s and share lettuce cups.

ANNALISE

1. “I Want to Kiss You All Over” by Exile.**

2. Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

3. No traditions per se, but every year we have done a little getaway. This year we are going to Auburn!

ALEX

1. “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley.

2. Cheesy, but The Notebook.

3. Just a normal date, maybe a little nicer but nothing too sappy.

ANGIE

1. “Die a Happy Man,” by Thomas Rhett.

2. An Abundance of Katherines, by John Green.

3. Making treats for my friends.

Editor’s Notes

*The music video for “Candy” is absolutely lovely. Find it here.

**I only knew this song from Happy Gilmore until I transcribed Annalise’s answers. For a refresher of Adam Sandler’s rendition, check out this clip.
