Halloween Fun for Kids
I should begin by saying that this post is geared towards parents unless you’re especially young at heart. I have had so much fun celebrating this season with my son—from baking, to pumpkin patching, to reading festive stories. At 14 months old, he is just beginning to more meaningfully participate in games, outings, and activities that my husband and I engage him in. In case you’re a parent, babysitter, or want to score auntie points, read on for some inspiration!
Could these mummy dogs be any cuter? To make them a bit healthier, I used Trader Joe’s crescent rolls (instead of Pillsbury) and nitrite and nitrate free chicken dogs (instead of the standard beef franks). Finish them off with candy eyeballs (I bought these from Target) and you’re all set! My little man scarfed this down with a side of steamed broccoli, but not before having the best time playing with his food. PS: Since hotdogs pose a choking risk, I cut up my son’s serving into bite-size pieces after he had a chance to play with his mummy. This easy dinner will be on repeat until the 31st!
My boy loves finger puppet board books, so I scooped up this one for Halloween. Believe me when I say I have had to read this to him every, single day. He giggles every time the little pumpkin (aka my index finger) moves around which is just so precious. By the way, the novelty of the puppet is the only draw of this series of books—the stories themselves are pretty damn weak. You have been warned!
It is probably silly to include something as obvious as going to the pumpkin patch. But, if you’re thinking you’re little one is too young or that it’s maybe not worth it (thoughts that crossed my mind), you might be pleasantly surprised. Our little man had the best time getting towed around in a wagon, protecting his pumpkins, and climbing around hay bales. It was just an all around delight and I am really glad we went. If you’re a Bay Area local, Farmer John’s Pumpkin Patch in Half Moon Bay is the best.
Last but not least, grab a pair of festive pajamas. Old Navy has so many reasonably priced options, especially considering that they’re 100% cotton and hold up in the wash. This cute set has already seen a ton of wear in our apartment.
