A Day in Pasadena

I think it’s safe to say that Pasadena is under-appreciated. This city has so much to offer—hopefully this little guide will prove that to you! If you’re local to southern California or have plans to visit the Los Angeles or Orange County areas, then use this to help you plan.

There is so much more to do, see, and eat in Pasadena than what’s included in the following list, but I narrowed it down to a few of my favorites that can be experienced in a day or two…perfect for a day trip or weekend getaway.

If you’re spending the night, look no further than The Langham (here). This gorgeous 5-star hotel can easily set you back $400-500/night, but don’t let that sticker price deter you. In the off-season, I have booked The Langham for less than $200/night via Hotwire. The grounds and decor are simply stunning, and it feels like such an oasis after a busy day of playing tourist.

From museums to mountain trails, there is so much to do in Pasadena. If you like starting your day with exercise, then consult this list to pick a trail in the San Gabriel mountains to walk or run. Next up, consider visiting the Gamble House (tickets and information here), which is a famous example of the “American Arts and Crafts” architectural and furniture style. Next up, you must swing by the Norton Simon Museum (tickets and information here), which boasts an unbelievable art collection, especially considering its relatively small size. Finally, the Huntington Library and Gardens (tickets and information here) should make it on your itinerary. This gorgeous place is always busy for a reason. You will be doing plenty of walking here—there are so many amazing and diverse gardens to visit—so be prepared!

Okay, so the dining picks were difficult to narrow down because there are so many excellent and wide-ranging options. I decided to choose just one restaurant, The Luggage Room (information here), because every person I know who has visited has happily returned again and again. Trust me: order the padre pizza and a chopped salad, and you’ll be good to go. For coffee or a light meal, visit Intellegentsia (here) or Lavender and Honey (here), and for dessert, 21 Choices (here) is a must.

Visit Pasadena and let us know what you think about these recommendations!
