30 Minute Recipes: "Budget Rao's" Marinara Pasta

The idea behind this recipe was to approximate the outstanding flavor of Rao’s Marinara sauce without compromising too much on the convenience of store-bought pasta sauce.
The citric acid is really important here

Ingredients

  • 1 15-18oz can of tomato sauce (unsweetened and unseasoned, such as Pomi’s)

  • 1 15oz can diced tomatoes

  • 1/4 cup of water

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp of citric acid

  • 1/4 tsp oregano

  • 1/4 tsp rosemary

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1.25 tsp garlic powder

  • 2 tbs olive oil

  • 1 lb of cappellini (angel hair) pasta*

Preparation

  1. Add all sauce ingredients to a saucepan. Stir and simmer for a minimum of 15 minutes.

  2. While the sauce simmers, boil pasta according to package instructions.

  3. Add the noodles to the hot sauce and stir for maximum creaminess. Serve with beans, chicken, peas, baked tempeh, baked kale, etc!

*Can sub gluten free noodles, protein noodles, spaghetti, gnocchi, etc.
