A 30-Day Game for a 28-Day Month

I am by no stretch of the imagination a minimalist. That said, I enjoy listening to episodes of The Minimalists Podcast hosted by Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus, and there are many aspects of minimalism that I find very compelling. Having less, consuming less, and, in general, living by Ryan and Josh's saying "Love people, not things" are basic ideas that align with my desire to live in a more environmentally and socially thoughtful way. One gateway minimalist activity is their 30-day Minimalism Game. On day 1, donate or dispose of one item, day 2, two items, day 3, three items... you get the idea (but here is their link: https://www.theminimalists.com/game/ )

Now that I have lived in my apartment for nearly two years, I have (un)successfully filled every drawer, closet, and cranny that can conceal things. While many of these things I use and love, I am not sure why I am still holding on to other things. And since a move down the street or across the country may be near with residency around the corner, I have to ask myself, “Am I really going to transform all of those used candle containers into an eclectic display of succulents?”

So, it being February 1st, what better time to start a 30-day challenge? (Answer: the first day of a month that has thirty or more days.)

Join me! Or follow along! And watch me as I count a pair of shoes as two items and keep me honest (“Mark it zero!”).
